License Management
Overview
In GigaVaultStorage Service Provider Edition, from version 2.2, all the client licensing are handled in the server side. GigaVaultStorage server uses a unit called MSPEU to manage the licensing of clients backing up to the GigaVaultStorage Server.
What is an MSPEU ?
MSPEU is short form for 'Monthly Service Provider Edition Unit'. If you are familiar with our SPEU 'currency', 1 SPEU is simply equal to 12 MSPEUs (because there are 12 months in a year :) You still purchase SPEUs from us, and SPEUs are converted to MSPEUs only when you 'credit' licenses to your backup server .
MSPEUs were introduced to to allow easier license management, especially when a client changes his operating system (from Desktop OS to Server OS or vice versa) or discontinues service for one of his installations. The backup server holds a 'bank' of MSPEUs and as clients connect to the backup server they use up MSPEUs from the server's bank - on a monthly basis. MSPEUs ensure that as long as your server has enough MSPEUs on it, you needn't spend time and effort worrying about client licensing.
