GigaVaultStorage Events Configuration

How to get here in the GigaVaultStorage Web Console?
In the top menu, select: "Administration->Advanced Options" and click on the "Events Configuration" icon in the left hand side.

GigaVaultStorage generates events to alert the user about potential problems that may require attention. The events configuration UI is meant to configure parameters on how GigaVaultStorage should handle its events. The following describes the configuration options:

Local Events - Events that are generated locally by the GigaVaultStorage installation. Here you can configure the following:

  1. Number of Events to Retain - The maximum number of events should GigaVaultStorage retain in its database. The default value is 1000. Once the number of events crosses this maximum value, GigaVaultStorage will start dropping older events from the database.

  2. Clean Up Frequency - This field is used to specify how often should GigaVaultStorage check to see if the ‘number of events to retain’ has been exceeded. It is not advisable to check and delete events frequently because this may cause performance issues. So the maximum frequency you can specify is a "Day".

Shared Events

GigaVaultStorage has the capability to share all its local events to other GigaVaultStorage servers. This feature will be useful if an administrator requires a consolidation of all events into a single server for easy identification of potential problems. The event sharing steps are described below:

  1. Enable Event Sharing - Check this checkbox if you want to share events from this GigaVaultStorage installation to other GigaVaultStorage servers.

  2. Select Servers - Check the checkbox corresponding to the servers to which the events should be sent.

  3. Select event type to share - You can specify which event type (severity) to be shared with the server. By default, all event type will be shared.

  4. Share Frequency - This field is to specify how often events should be sent to the configured server. It is not efficient to share the event as and when it is generated. It will be more efficient to share the events in a batch. The following options are provided.

    1. You can specify sharing after the number of events pending to be shared is more than a threshold. By default this threshold is 1000.

    2. OR

    3. You can share the events periodically by specifying a time duration. The options for the time duration are Hour, Day and Week.
